I have run into an interesting situation. Our institution has more training content online, and therefore more people are starting to use their system speakers to take these training vids rather than use headphones. Please note that both headphones and external speakers work without issue. What I discovered was that there are several systems where the internal front speakers on the Dell 9030 AIO do not emit any sound. There is a pop when the speakers are initialized on boot, but that is it. I did a lot of troubleshooting, which I will list, but the most telling thing is that the ePSA speaker test does not emit any sound. Prior to discovering that, I did the following, though not necessarily in this order:
1)Removed all peripheral devices except keyboard, mouse and ethernet. 2)Updated the BIOS. 3)Uninstalled Realtek audio drivers, updated chipset, then re-installed audio drivers from vendor site. 4)Installed another drive with clean Windows 10 Enterprise (Original drive had Windows 7 Enterprise) 5)Reset CMOS to default, as well as removing battery. 6)Found that system still fails ePSA Quick Audio Check diagnostics.
I tested several labs after discovering this in some of our offices and found that, 1/2 to 2/3 are exhibiting this issue. The labs are a more controlled environment, and they all have the same software image and are updated at the same rate, which should mean they either all work or the all don't. I ordered a system board to replace in one system. Even if it works, that would mean I would be replacing A LOT of system boards.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
